History of BUU Youth Ministry
The idea to have a youth ministry was conceived at the beginning of the Baptist Union of Uganda in 1977, however the BUU youth ministry did not begin until 1991.
A national youth congress was held in 1997 with 400 delegates coming from all districts of Uganda to chart out ways of planning for a department that would have impact among the Baptist Youth. At that time the country as divided into 8 regions for easy coordination of youth work and easy communication and development of regional youth ministries. Regional youth leaders were also elected.
The Union employed a National Youth Director at the Secretariat to coordinate youth programsin our churches across the country and sice then organization and operations of regional youth ministries have been taking place.
Goals of the Youth Ministry
Taught and mentored youths into Christian faith and living with a view to realize their full potential as adults and leaders of tomorrow’s church and nation.
Objectives of the Youth Ministry
- To promote oneness among the Baptist Youth in Uganda.
- To promote the formation and development of youth ministries in Baptist Churches to fulfill the great commission as stated in Matthew 28:18-20 through a holistic ministry based on the obedience to the authority of the holy scriptures and Baptist Youth Program.
- To promote understanding and cooperation among Baptist Youth and other Christian youth groups in keeping with our unity in Jesus Christ.
- To provide training and such assistance to youth leaders to enable them lead and feed the church of God.
- To serve as a channel of expressing Christian Social concern and alleviating human need.
- To speak on behalf of the Baptist Youth.
- Evangelism, to mobilize youth groups in churches, associations and regions to reach out to the lost world for Christ.
- Leadership Training.
- Training opportunities for youth leaders.
- Formation of church Youth groups.
- Youth conferences that encourage Unity.
- Encouraging Local church Discipleship among Youths.
- Regional Visitation.
